[Announcement] Application Guidelines for the Ministry of Education Doctoral Scholarship Subsidy for Academic Year 2024

1. Eligibility Criteria
The scholarship is open to Taiwanese doctoral students (Grades 1 to 3) who are non-employed. Applications must be submitted annually, and each award is valid for one year. For students graduating within the award year, the scholarship will be granted only up to the graduation month. Students meeting any of the following conditions are ineligible:

(1) Engaged in full-time paid employment or enrolled as in-service students.
(2) Enrolled as students from Hong Kong, Macau, or Mainland China.
(3) On leave of absence, with deferred admission, or not yet registered.

2. Scholarship Period
August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025.

3. Scholarship Amount
Total: NT$40,000 per month.

4. Restrictions
Applicants of this scholarship may not simultaneously receive the following:

The "NSTC Doctoral Research Scholarship Pilot Program."
The "Scholarship for Outstanding Doctoral Students" under the previous system.
The university's full-time graduate student scholarship.

5. Application Period and Procedure
(1) Submit the application form and supporting documents to the respective college between Thursday, December 5, 2024, and Thursday, December 12, 2024 (by 5:00 PM). Late or incomplete applications will not be processed.
(2) The college will convene a review committee meeting to rank and recommend applicants. The ranked list will be submitted to the Office of Student Affairs for consolidation and forwarded to the Office of Research and Development for final approval.

6. Required Documents
(1) Taipei Medical University Application Form for the Ministry of Education Doctoral Scholarship (signed by the advisor and department/program director).
(2) Research proposal.
(3) Copy of the highest degree certificate.
(4) Transcript of academic records for the highest degree attained.
(5) Additional supporting documents (e.g., language proficiency certificates, awards, published journal articles, conference papers, books, technical reports, or related research achievements).
(6) Applicants whose advisors are engaged in industry-academia collaboration projects will be given priority. Proof of the advisor's collaboration (e.g., signed contract copies) must be submitted.
The effective period for the collaboration project must fall between August 1, 2024, and July 31, 2025.

7. Evaluation Criteria
The evaluation scores are determined by the college's review committee based on the following standards:

(1) Priority for applicants with advisors involved in industry-academia collaboration projects.
(2) Academic performance, personal achievements, potential for development, and experience in industry-academia collaboration (40%).
(3) Completeness and feasibility of the research proposal, including themes, steps, expected deliverables, and outcomes (30%).
(4) Research skills, expertise, and relevance to industry-academia collaboration fields (20%).
(5) Outstanding achievements in industry-academia research or learning outcomes (e.g., awards) (10%).
 

8. Disqualification and Penalty
Scholarship recipients found to have falsified or misrepresented information will have their awards revoked, must return the disbursed funds, and may face further penalties based on the severity of the violation.

9. Submission Deadline
Submit a hard copy of the application documents to the College of Medical Science and Technology Office (9th Floor, Graduate Institute of Biomedical Informatics, Teaching and Research Building) to Manager Christine Yang by 5:00 PM on Thursday, December 12, 2024.
