Our section studies animal models of neurodegenerative disorders. We focus on both pathophysiology and novel therapeutic interventions. Our animal models focus on Parkinson’s Disease, stroke, aging and traumatic brain injury. Unique models include: transgenic mouse models of Parkinson’s Disease – the MitoPark mouse, trophic factors as novel therapeutic agents – GDNF, BMPs, CDNF, MANF, and mitochondrial mechanisms in aging – the mtDNA mutator mouse.
