Educational Targets
Collaboration with National Health Research Institute (NHRI)
The main target of our program is to train outstanding research fellows in the field of neural regenerative medicine. The overall course design consists of required courses, including basic neuroscience, stem cell biology, and neural regenerative medicine, and electives, including other neural regenerative-related courses such as biomedical materials. Courses are lectured by instructors from both NHRI and TMU. Our program is the first Ph.D. program focused on the neural regenerative medicine.

Purpose of establishment
The purpose of establishing our Ph.D. program is to train outstanding research fellows in the neural regenerative medicine, which can later join this competitive research field. The main targets of research in this program is to investigate the physiological and pathological mechanism of severe CNS traumatic injury and neurodegenerative diseases, and further develop drugs or strategies that can cure or improve damages caused by severe CNS traumatic injury and neurodegenerative diseases. Our Ph.D. program will inspire students’ thinking skills and creativity and develop their abilities of independent thinking and problem solving through the complete and intensive course design, regular talks by the invited speakers, journal clubs, and participations and doing researches in the laboratories. In combined, students can utilize their learnings to contribute the development of methods against severe CNS traumatic injury and neurodegenerative diseases in either diagnostic, preventive or treatment approaches.

1)Training neural regenerative medical research fellows to possess the ability of performing independent research and establishing prospective theories and reasonable practices.
2)Developing the field of regenerative translational medicine combining both basic and clinical research.
3)Improving the cross-disciplinary technical application of scientific research and drug development in the field of neural regenerative medicine.
4)Reinforcing the competitive strength containing an international perspective and a global vision.
Core Competence
│Core Competence│
Grasp the knowledge of brain trauma, nerve damages, neurodegenerative diseases and nerve regenerative medicine and other related knowledge.
Have the capabilities of various experimental experiments, instrument operation, data collation and analysis.
Engage in medical practical management and skills
Have the ability to cross-field expanding translation.
Have the capacities of conduct foreign speeches with an international outlook.
│Feature│
Our Ph.D. program especially focuses on the integration of basic science and clinical research. Therefore, we emphasize on the translational medicine in neural regeneration in the course design. We also arrange not only clinical instructors but patients to reveal students the most urgent clinical problems yet to be solved nowadays, and demonstrate how their dedication in research might improve patients’ condition in the future. In addition, our program will collaborate with domestic and international famous neuroscience research institutes, and develop drugs to cure or treat severe CNS injury and neurodegenerative diseases to establish the international status of our country in the field of neural regenerative medicine.
Academic Cooperation
Academic Cooperation
The National Health Research Institutes (NHRI) is a non-profit foundation established by the government with its organization charter created by an Act of Congress (Legislative Yuan) and signed in 1995 by President Teng-hui Lee. Being an autonomous research organization under the supervision of the Department of Health, Executive Yuan, the NHRI is dedicated to the enhancement of medical research and the improvement of health care in this country.
Scientists at the NHRI conduct mission-oriented medical research and investigate many aspects of the basic biomedical sciences, as well as specific diseases. These range from the common problems such as aging, cancer, infectious diseases, mental disorders, occupational diseases, to health policy. It is our hope that the knowledge, experience, and facilities at the NHRI will become important resources to the whole nation in understanding, preventing, and curing diseases.The NHRI has been established to serve the following purposes:

●To plan the overall directions of national science and technology development in health and medical care;

●To coordinate, integrate, and support research activities undertaken by medical institutions in this country;

●To further educate and train young scientists and physicians;

To establish an objective and fair system for reviewing and assessing research projects and their progress;

●To facilitate the exchange of information and to promote domestic and international cooperation.

It is anticipated that both public and private sector efforts of the NHRI will help achieve excellence in medical research in Taiwan.
